On 14 July 2013, 10 of us embarked on the journey from Singapore to Zambia to see our

sponsored children in the Musosolokwe ADP in Kabwe. This was to be the first time we would be

meeting our sponsored children face to face. The anticipation was palpable. Armed with gifts of

clothes, toys, chocolates and soccer balls which made our luggage bursting at the seams, we were

at once gratified and anxious - gratified that we had brought as many gifts as our luggage could

bear, and anxious that it would still not be enough.

Nothing prepared us for what we would see at the ADP. It is true that there are tremendous needs

in terms of healthcare, sanitation, food safety and education. But what really struck us was the

overwhelming generosity of the villagers, the selfless giving of the volunteers and the tireless

commitment of the World Vision local staff. 

The families we visited touched us with their hospitality. They had very little, and yet they cooked

delicious meals for us, gave us chickens, pigeons ("live" ones!) and handcrafted gifts. The

volunteers spent much time reaching out to the poorest and most vulnerable in their communities,

to watch out and seek help for them.  The World Vision local staff worked constantly on new

projects to uplift the communities, to teach the villagers to fish so that there is sustainability and

self-reliance. 

In the midst of so much hardship and poverty, we saw love, kindness and hope.

We came back to Singapore, moved to do whatever little we could to help, and this is the genesis

for the fund raising though the art exhibition and the sale of this calendar. The funds raised will be

used to equip two classrooms with tables, chairs, blackboards and books for the children. 

We found much joy and meaning in our interactions with our sponsored children and hope that you

will join us as child sponsors. On behalf of the Musosolokwe ADP,  we thank you for your kindness

and pray that you will be blessed every day of 2014!
